Svenåke Boström from Sundsvalls Tidning in Sweden is eager to learn the experience from weekend subscriptions.
In countries with declining readership/subscriptions, one way is to try weekend subscriptions. The reason is that during weekdays many readers say that they don’t have time for the morning paper. But they would love to have the newspaper Friday to Sunday or Saturday to Sunday.
Offering a weekend subscription can of course be a risk taking operation. There might be a risk that many 6 or 7 days subscribers are shifting to the shorter period.
In Sweden, two national newspapers have tried this, Svenska Dagbladet and Dagens Nyheter and one local newspaper is on its way to introduce this for their readers.
But what is going on in other places?
Do you have any experiences in this matter to share?
Do you know any local newspaper that has tried this out?
Please let me know!
