Leila Taunila from Finland was at the Space 2012 seminar glad to hear that the best news designers in Scandinavia are also humans.
But what did the participant learn from the seminar? Did they bring anything home with them? Was there some specific speaker or event that they in particular liked?
We have caught some of the participants and asked them about it. One of these was Leila Taunila from Finland. She works as a producer on the life style section of the regional newspaper Etelä-Suomen Sanomat.
Asked what learning’s she brought home with here from the Space 2012 seminar, she replies, that she was inspired by the beautiful pages and well designed newspapers that were presented at the seminar.
“It was also comforting to hear that no one can do so well designed pages as we saw every day. They try do some magnificent pages every week, but not every day,” she adds.
This particular learning she has taken home with here. “I have tried to be merciful and ambitious at the same time. We will definitely try to do some wonderful pages this year, but not every day.”
She is not in doubt when she is asked to point out one speaker that made particular impression on her. Her fellow countryman Sami Valtere gets here “star”.
“Design Director Sami Valtere from Helsingin Sanomat was a great speaker and his topic about transformation from broadsheet to tabloid is very topical in Finland right now. Of cause it was also great to hear about tablet design.”
Seminars are also a great opportunity to meet new people and extend one’s network, even get lifetime friends. Leila also met some interesting people and she knows that she will be seeing some of them again some time.
On the downside she thinks that the program was too tight and packed in the afternoon up to the Nordic dinner that she did not feel to have enough time to hear all the speakers. But the dinner was great.
“The Nordic dinner itself was really interesting and well organized,” Leila concludes.
