Design awards for 23 Scandinavian and Baltic media houses

We are happy to present the results of the Best of News Design Scandinavia 2020!

All in all 37 media houses from Scandinavia and Estonia participated in the competition. The print and digital juries consisting of news design professionals from five countries evaluated 240 print and 111 digital entries. Eight media houses from Norway, seven from Finland, five from Denmark,
four from Sweden and one from Estonia are awarded in the competition with bronze, silver or gold awards.

The number of entries in the digital category is increasing year after year, and this time the amount was impressive, as was the level of quality and overall look. According to the digital jury there were cohesive and beautiful digital presentations in all categories. It shows that the media companies are getting comfortable doing digital journalism. Compared to last year there was now perhaps less storytelling and big data projects and more smaller things to enhance the value for paying customers.

In the print category the things that stood out this year were great illustrations both in local and national papers and a consistently high quality of journalistic photos. One of the highlights was the impressive modern storytelling in magazines. The quality in print was good in all categories, and it shows that a lot of effort is still put in the journalistic design work despite today’s challenging situation in print media.

The awards were meant to be revealed in a joint congress and award show in June. On account of the covid-19 situation we were unfortunately forced to cancel the event this year.

You will find all the winners of all the categories published here at snds.org. The diplomas will be sent to the winners by mail.

SNDS congratulates all the winners and wishes everyone a nice autumn!
